Journal Article 2025 03 17 <span style="letter-spacing: -.05pt;">Epistemology has gained significant importance in both Western and Islamic philosophy, particularly in the contemporary era. Among the most challenging discussions is the explanation and evaluation of acquired sciences, which in Islamic philosophy is examined under the title of "mental existence". This theory is one of the four prominent theories, with its latest formulation developed in transcendent philosophy. The primary focus of this research is to assess the capability of this formulation in addressing ancient challenges, such as unifying disparate categories, and responding to modern epistemological questions. Adopting a critical approach and emphasizing both foundationalism and the necessity of coherence within the structure of knowledge this study compares the theory of mental existence with three other competing theories. It concludes that while this theory represents a significant advancement in resolving the problem it still requires further development in terms of its foundations and coherence with other philosophical discussions. Suggestions for improving this theory, based on the principles of transcendent philosophy, are also presented. The significance of this problem lies in its relevance to contemporary epistemological problems and its crucial role in determining the ontology of knowledge in Islamic philosophy. The research method employed is descriptive-analytical, relying on library-based data collection. </span> معرفت‌شناسی در فلسفه غرب و اسلامی، به‌ویژه در دوران معاصر، اهمیت فراوانی یافته است. از چالش‌برانگیزترین مباحث تبیین و ارزیابی علوم حصولی است که در فلسفه اسلامی تحت عنوان نظریه «وجود ذهنی» بررسی می‌شود. این نظریه یکی از چهار نظریه مطرح و آخرین تبیین موجود آن است که در حکمت متعالیه شکل گرفته است. مسئله اصلی این پژوهش ارزیابی توانایی این تبیین در رفع چالش‌های قدیم مانند جمع مقولات متباین و پاسخ به پرسش‌های معرفت‌شناسی جدید است. با رویکردی انتقادی و براساس توجه هم‌زمان به مبناگروی و لزوم انسجام بافت معرفت، این نوشتار نظریه وجود ذهنی را با سه نظریه رقیب مقایسه می‌کند و بر آن است که این نظریه، هرچند پیشرفت بزرگی در حل مسئله است، از نظر مبانی و نیز انسجام با دیگر مباحث فلسفی نیازمند بسط و تکمیل است. پیشنهادهایی نیز برای بهبود این نظریه مبتنی بر حکمت متعالیه ارائه شده است. اهمیت بررسی این نظریه آن است که هم به مسائل معرفت‌شناسی معاصر مرتبط است و هم سرنوشت هستی‌شناسی معرفت در فلسفه اسلامی به تبیین صحیح آن وابسته است. روش تحقیق این مطالعه توصیفی - تحلیلی و مبتنی بر گردآوری کتابخانه‌ای اطلاعات است. https://jipt.sbu.ac.ir/article_106345_5461f225d1f7a0a305069a59207d6b4f.pdf
